The Empower 360 Legal Expert Team are a group of HR and Learning & Development professionals with extensive experience working in law firms.


We have designed and developed numerous 360 Degree and other appraisals in UK and international law firms. We have implemented programmes from partner to trainee level and delivered these using our empower 360 flexible online evaluation tool.


In addition, our team together bring a deep understanding of the issues that drive professionals in law firms, the most up to date methodologies and techniques for developing performance, and the specific issues around performance, skills and talent development in law firms.

Joy Harcup

With over 20 years' experience in learning and development, Joy specializes in executive coaching in the professional services sector and other private and public sectors such as financial services and central government. She works with Directors, Partners and Senior Managers to build strategies and to develop a mind set to be highly successful leaders in the current challenging and ever changing business environment. Formerly a solicitor, Joy was Head of Learning and Development at a global professional service firm and she has an in depth knowledge of both lawyers and their clients. She is highly experienced in coaching in the areas of career progression; managing organisational change eg restructuring; strategic thinking and leadership; building confidence and making an impact on a change of role; developing stronger mental resilience in challenging times; life balance and personal effectiveness in the age of instant communication. As her dissertation for her MBA (Distinction) from Bath University, Joy has further researched in professional service firms how the executive coaching of partners can result in individual and team changes that achieve the firm's business goals.


Alison Reid

Alison Reid is an organisational development consultant and career coach with 17 years' management experience spanning FMCG, professional services, IT and the third sector. Organisations she has worked for include Procter & Gamble, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Baker & McKenzie and VSO, both in the UK and abroad. Her diverse career has encompassed the arts, chartered accountancy, sales and marketing and human resources before finding a home in the field of learning and development.

Alison specialises in designing and delivering bespoke development programmes to enable teams and organisations to perform at their best. She is a qualified practitioner of MBTI, Firo B and NLP and a qualified coach specialising in career transition. She is skilled in understanding exactly what the client needs and making sure programmes are pitched just right. Alison gets excellent feedback for her training and facilitation skills, and has a knack for engaging people at all levels. Her programmes have a reputation for being interactive, fun and effective.


Deborah Simmons

Deborah Simmons is an experienced coach & trainer, a licensed NLP Practitioner and a qualified solicitor, finishing her career at magic circle firm, Allen & Overy. She works with individuals helping them to find out what they want from their careers, why they want it and how they are going to make it happen resulting in a more motivated, confident and successful approach to work. Amongst other legal clients, Deborah also provides training and coaching for The Law Society and the Association of Women Solicitors (AWS), working in particular on the Returners Course and the Intelligent Careers Skills Academy – a bespoke programme which Deborah co-designed and co-delivers annually. Deborah serves on the Expert Panel for The Guardian On-Line Careers Forum and is a contributor to magazines such as Link (the AWS magazine). When not coaching, Deborah loves to ski, sail and travel – her last big adventure was a trek to Everest Base Camp.


Paula McMullan

Paula McMullan has ten years of experience as a learning and development professional. She has set up the training department in two law firms, developing the learning and development strategy to underpin in-house development programmes. She now specializes in coaching, 360 Degree Feedback and business skills training. Paula is highly adaptable and cares deeply about providing her clients with exactly what they want. From her experience as a lawyer, Paula has hands-on understanding of working under pressure to provide the highest quality service to demanding clients. As a solicitor, Paula worked with Norton Rose, Malleson Stephen Jacques and Shearman & Sterling. She spent six years as a learning and development professional with Masons and then Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft LLP where she implemented an upward partner review process. Most recently Paula has supported the rollout of 360 Degree Feedback coaching at Baker & McKenzie. She has also designed and delivered a ‘train the trainer' programme on coaching using 360 Degree Feedback. Paula is a member of the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning and a former chair of the Legal Education Training Group (LETG) – an association representing legal training and development professionals. She was also a member of the Law Society Education & Training Committee from 2005-2006.


Jo Ayoubi

Jo Ayoubi is a co-founder and Managing Director of Track Surveys.

Jo Ayoubi, Track Surveys' Managing Director, is one of the UK's leading practitioners of 360 Degree Feedback, Appraisal and Performance Management, and frequently contributes to a number of forums on these topics, including UK Training Zone and the London HR Connection.

Since 2004, Jo has personally designed, or overseen the design and delivery of, high quality, professional and customised online assessment and feedback tools in diverse organisations such as Baker & McKenzie, Withers and Cadwalader, as well as firms in other professional services sectors such as Ernst & Young and BDO.
